Approximate Method to Study M/G/1-Type Polling System with Adaptive Polling Mechanism

چکیده
Abstract: We investigate a polling model of a radio-cell of the broadband wireless IEEE 802.11 network. A radio-cell is assumed to work in the ‘‘data collection’’ regime. It is modeled by a polling system with N queues and a single server polling the queues in a cyclic adaptive order. Under adaptive scheme, the server (base station) skips (does not visit) the queues (subscriber stations) which were empty at their polling moments at the previous cycle that allows cutting expenses. In the paper, we present an iterative procedure for calculating the first and second moments of the waiting time in queues and provide numerical examples to compare theoretical results and ones obtained from simulation.

Iterative approximation of limited polling systems
The present paper deals with the problem of calculating queue length distributions in a polling model with (exhaustive) limited service under the assumption of general arrival, service and setup distributions. The interest for this model is fueled by an application in the field of logistics. Knowledge of the queue length distributions is needed to operate the system properly. The multi-queue po...
متن کاملM/g/1 Polling Systems with Random Visit Times
We consider a polling system where a group of an infinite number of servers visits sequentially a set of queues. When visited, each queue is attended for a random time. Arrivals at each queue follow a Poisson process, and the service time of each individual customer is drawn from a general probability distribution function. Thus, each of the queues comprising the system is, in isolation, an M/G...
متن کاملAnalysis of a TCP system under polling-type reduction-signal procedures
The performance of a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) for a system with N connections sharing a common Active Queue Management (AQM) is analyzed for both AdditiveIncrease Multiplicative-Decrease (AIMD) and MultiplicativeIncrease Multiplicative-Decrease (MIMD) control mechanisms, where reduction signals follow either a cyclic or a probabilistic polling-type procedure. The Laplace-Stieltjes Tr...
متن کاملAnalysis of a polling system modeling QoS differentiation in WLANs
This paper investigates a polling system with a random polling scheme, a 1-limited service discipline and deterministic service requirement modeling WLANs with QoS differentation capability. The system contains high and low priority queues that are distinguished via the probability of being served next. We propose a new iteration algorithm to approximate the waiting time of customers in the hig...
متن کاملThe Adaptive Cross Validation Method - applied to polling
The Adaptive Cross Validation (ACV) method is a general method for system performance optimization. It continuously investigates the performance of a number of simulation models in parallel to nd the currently best model. The best model and a number of alternative models are investigated next. This method can be used in the design phase to determine how a system should be designed, or it could ...
